About Sandi Berg

I am a mathematics consultant, author, and educator dedicated to shifting how we design student learning. My approach, Math Unscripted, is built on the premise that mathematics should be a continuous, connected journey of discovery rather than a series of rigid, isolated procedures.

The Evolution of the Architect

My perspective is informed by over 25 years in the classroom and in leadership. After starting my teaching career in 1998, I spent 15 years at the divisional and provincial levels—serving eight years as a Learning Services Coordinator for Chinook’s Edge School Division and seven years as a Curriculum Implementation Consultant for the Central Alberta Regional Consortium (CARC).

These roles allowed me to design the structural foundations for math instruction across Alberta, from co-authoring the Dynamic Math Grades 4-6 series to developing divisional frameworks that align classroom practice with provincial standards.

The Working Consultant

While I moved into leadership in 2011, I never really left the classroom.

For the past 15 years, I have been a "working consultant," frequently stepping into classrooms to model lessons and coach teachers through the productive struggle. This hands-on refinement ensures that the Guided Architect framework isn't just theory—it is a battle-tested approach rooted in the daily reality of the K-12 environment.

From the foundational play of Kindergarten to the sophistication of Grade 12, I understand what it takes to engineer an environment where math is figure-out-able, joyful, and deeply connected.

The Math Unscripted Mission

My past roles provided the tools; Math Unscripted is where those tools meet your classroom. I help educators move away from "the script" to become Guided Architects—teachers who intentionally design paths for deep mathematical understanding and student success.
